awesome recollection of our trip jack. that was undoubtedly my proudest moment fishing and i know i reveled in my audacity, but i know our friendship remains unerring through all the jokes and trash-talking. i love this blog, it makes me smile and brings fishing back to mind when i go months without it. thanks for the laughs.

"just as my subconscious was drifting towards the girls in the boat adjacent to ours, it happened."

It was at this point I thought your post was going to take a very different turn.

Once again, Jack, you make a sport that I care nothing about seem both interesting and poetic. And to that I salute you.

There have been many times when I have gone to a gun store or shooting range and thought maybe I should park in back so no one who knows me sees my car. I know this sounds stupid but I have clients that if they knew I was a gun owner and enjoyed hunting and sport shooting would not treat me the same way.

As a father raising Jack several people told me how terrible I was for teaching Jack to shoot and hunt. I have had many great experiences hunting and wanted him to also have those opportunites but more importantly if he didn't take up the sport he would learn to respect a gun and know the damage it can do if used inappropriately.

I know more about writing than I do fishing. Your humorous slant on this outdoor activity is entertaining.

Ice fishing sure beats riding a snowmobile for hours in the dark , having your kidneys bounced from one side to the other, the constant smell of exhaust, and the occassional wack on the head by a low tree branch.
